Just finished reading the Cupid and Psyche myth

I just finished reading the Greek/Roman myth of Cupid (Eros) and Psyche. It's clearly where we get all of our versions of beauty and the beast. I wonder if all fairytales are just retellings of myths and legends. I thought that Cupid and Psyche's story was supposed to end badly, but the version in my book ended happily. I like the idea of Cupid and Psyche, Cupid's for the heart and Psyche means soul. <3
