Patriarchy is not men. Patriarchy is a system in which both women and men participate. It privileges, inter alia, the interests of boys and men over the bodily integrity, autonomy, and dignity of girls and women. It is subtle, insidious, and never more dangerous than when women passionately deny that they themselves are engaging in it. Patriarchy hurts everybody. It hurts boys and men too. So why continue it? Patriarchy is a part of culture. It is made up of people the only way it can change is if people do. I am a person that is trying to change so that my culture doesn't hurt people. I don't know how much I can do, but i can, and will try.
