Unlearning racism

Things like sexism and racism are learned and internalized without you even knowing it. It becomes "just the way things are". Racism is deeply ingrained in our culture and it's hard to unlearn things. The first part of learning is knowing you are uneducated about something. People that don't like or care about wouldn't talk to you about it. For them to be willing to have hard conversations with you is because you matter to them. Even if you educate yourself you don't become a saint or magically not racist anymore. It's hard work but not doing it does make you willful ignorant and knowingly hurting people. This is just what I have learned for myself and by listening to people.
